MEET ME AT MONA’S
A CAPSULE COLLECTION IN COLLABORATION WITH VICTORIA F. GARRIGUES
DESCRIPTION:

Meet Me At Mona’s explores 90’s streetwear based around R&B culture and the queer community of the U.S. within the 50’s to 70’s. We juxtapose the charateristics of the suppresed minorities of the queer and black and brown community, against the trench coat archeotype, worn by officers as a symbol of status during the World Wars. The graphics on the pieces have been designed by adapting existing streetwear motifs to refernce significant sybols, references and dates from the queer community. We brought these to life by using vinyl and laser cutting, and patchwork techniques with a mixture of bright colors and textures. Using the Lesbian and Gay flag, we extracted our color scheme of warm and cool tones that can be seen throughout all of our pieces. Our collection, Meet Me At Mona’s, takes oth oppressed communities and reverts power and recognition back to them through the art of design.
